Description:

Abstract:

Location of facilities where hazardous wastes are generated. Original data was collected between 1996 and 1999. Facility coordinates were captured at the front door of each facility using a Trimble GeoExplorer Global Positioning System (GPS). Differential correction and averaging was performed on each GPS measurement using Trimble's GEO-PC (1996-1998) or Pathfinder Office (1999) software. The coordinate location of each site was determined on a differentially corrected average of at least 10 GPS points. Since 1999, data has been digitized against aerial photography basemaps and coordinates provided by consultants.

This coverage is not complete. Additional hazardous waste generator locations exist. Check with the Waste Management Division for the most up-to-date listing. VCGI and the State make no representation of any kind, including but not limited to the warranties or fitness for a particular use, nor are any such warranties to be implied with respect to the data.

Use_Constraints:

This data is not complete. Approximately 75 percent of the hazardous waste generator facilities that are known to the VTDEC and EPA (i.e., in data bases) are included in the coverage. Data collection is ongoing and will include all active hazardous waste generator facilities in VTDEC and EPA data bases. In addition, generator facilities are identified on an ongoing basis and added to the coverage. For the most up-to-date information, call the Waste Management Division(WMD)of the VTDEC. Additional information on the generator facilities in the coverage is available from the WMD.

The VTDEC, Waste Management Division(WMD)uses a code to indicate the hazarous waste generation status of a facility. Generation status is determined by the amount of hazardous waste generated by a facility in pounds per month. A generator's status dictates the amount of regulations the business is subject to and the waste management options available to the business. Facilities that generate and handle hazardous waste are subject to regulation under the federal Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the Vermont Hazardous Waste Management Regulations. 'G' = Fully regulated generator, generates greater than 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month.'C' = Conditionally Exempt Generator, generates less than 220 pounds of hazardous waste per month.'DC' = Dry Cleaner, obsolete code, most facilities having the DC status have been reclassified as either G or C generators depending on the amount of waste that they generate.'S' = Status unknown, a facility that generates hazardous waste but for which the generator status is not known.'OB' = Out of Business, the business name listed is no longer generating waste at this location. Another business may be located at the same place and may or may not be generating hazardous waste.'NG' = Non-generator, business does not generate hazardous waste.
